Coming Up at Wesley chapel
There are great things in the works at Wesley Chapel. You are aware, of course, of our upcoming COMMUNITYFEST that is planned for October 29th. This is a very wonderful opportunity for us to make our presence in these neighborhoods known. And once our presence is known, we have a new opportunity to begin to be in ministry as a church. So, pray everyday for the successful launch of this outreach. Pray that many, many people will be there. In fact, as you pray ask God to bring to your mind families with children and youth and folks who would enjoy a good outing looking at crafts and listening to music, so that you can invite them to be a part of our celebration and outreach. Even if they go to another church, ask them. The more the merrier. We aren't trying to take anyone away from a church they love. But, if they come they will just make the day even more successful.
Also, as an ongoing part of our efforts to become a deeply spiritual church that serves God together, we are having the third of our series of home prayer meetings this Sunday evening. Mrs. Dottie Wade has graciously offered to host us this week. We thank her, as we thank Danny and Leigh Thomas for hosting our first home prayer meeting and Derwood and Regina Boyles for opening their home for the second one. Make sure you plan to join your Wesley Chapel brothers and sisters at 6pm Sunday evening at Dottie's home for this time of prayer and intercession. We will be praying for our community, our seminary (WBS), our missionaries, our youth, and our church's ministry.
I look forward to seeing you where we worship God,
Pastor Steve

Coming Up at Wesley Chapel
This week in the life of Wesley Chapel is an outstanding example of the uniqueness of our fellowship. How? This week we have the opportunity to be blessed by our relationship with Wesley Biblical Seminary in the annual Transform:ED conference and the opening convocation exercises. Dr. Gareth Cockerill will be lecturing this week for the conference and, of course, all of you who can are invited to attend these lectures. Dr. Cockerill will be speaking on the doctrine of Christian holiness and the call to Christ-like living as it presented from the New Testament book of Hebrews. Dr Cockerill is one of the leading experts in the world today on the Book of Hebrews and is a nationally-recognized and acclaimed scholar of the New Testament. That's right, right here in our "back yard" at Wesley Chapel we have the opportunity to hear a tremendous scholar speak, but a scholar who first and foremost loves God, loves the Church and loves people. In addition to his scholarship, Dr Cockerill spent 12 years as a missionary to Sierra Leone in west Africa. This cross cultural and pastoral experience makes him very adept as presenting deep biblical truths in practical ways that people can embrace and engage.
Also, in our fellowship we have one of the seminary's outstanding graduates Ghuna Kumar. He is here to be honored by the seminary for his outstanding work for the Kingdom of God in his native India, where he has baptized over 10,000 Hindus into the Christian faith. Some there have referred to him as "the Apostle Paul of India." He will be speaking in our morning worship service this coming Sunday.
These are opportunities that not only do you not want to miss, but you want to invite others to experience. So, let me encourage you to call your friends--especially persons who are not active in a church or are looking for a church home--and tell them about the exciting things that are happening for WBS and Wesley Chapel this week.
See you where we worship God,
Pastor Steve

Coming up at Wesley Chapel
I would like to ask the entire congregation to consider another way we can reach out in support and spiritual care to the WBS student body. Would you become part of our WC "Lift Them Up Team"? This is a ministry of prayer for the student body of WBS--both resident and online students. We would like to find 20 people at Wesley Chapel who would be willing to pray each week for 6 students at WBS. You will be given the names of specific students and their WBS email contact information. You will be asked to pray for one of the six each day Monday-Saturday. Through the email contacts you will be able to drop them encouraging notes and keep in touch every now and again about prayer needs in their lives or their families or their ministries. One of the most significant experiences of my own life as a seminary student was to know of a couple of people (beyond my family and friends) who prayed for me regularly. It made a real difference for me. And you can make a difference!
See you where we worship Him,
Pastor Steve
P.S. I want to thank Billy Keyes for volunteering this week (Monday-Wednesday) to helping out in the office of Dr. Jim Porter. His presence at the seminary was a blessing and his help was a tremendous help.
P.P.S. New Teacher in Adult Sunday School Class – A Note From Jim Porter
I am your new teacher, and I want to invite you to join me each Sunday at 9:00 am in Room 242. We will be a Bible study class. For the next few weeks we are looking at names that were given to the followers of Christ. From these names we are learning what it means to be a Christian.
On October 7th we will begin the book of Genesis. We will be blessed as the Holy Spirit opens to us this “Book of Beginnings.”
I look forward to you joining us each week.

People are hungry and suffering from the floods, tornados and now the first hurricane of the year. In fact, this is the most number of disasters the U.S. has ever had in one year. The coffers of that wonderful organization, the Salvation Army, are empty and we can help! Wesley Chapel will collect non-perishable (unexpired) food items beginning September 11 and continuing through Sunday Oct. 2. Boxes will be located in the narthax and the back hall for the collection for the items. We want to collect a minimum of 500 cans, etc. so think big!

Coming Up at Wesley Chapel
This coming Sunday, Wesley Chapel will be hosting a Student and Faculty Recognition day. In my new role as the pastor of Wesley Chapel, I invite you and encourage you to be part of this special day. Allow me to explain what is behind this celebration and all the planning that has gone into it. Of course, Wesley Chapel believes in the mission of Wesley Biblical Seminary and shares its commitment to Christian orthodox faith, biblical inerrancy and belief that God wants to and can make us holy. This day is a way for us to say thank you to the people who work at WBS. Also, it gives us the opportunity to let the students know that we give thanks to God that they have chosen WBS as their place for theological training for ministry. We also can express to them the joy we feel that they have said "Yes!" to God's calling upon their lives.
The future of the church is in the hands of those who are called into ministry. Wesley Chapel has the unique privilege of being able to encourage and support persons who will go out into all the world and preach the Gospel. So, make sure you come this Sunday as we celebrate God's calling upon the lives of those who make Wesley Biblical Seminary their place of training and their place of teaching.
I look forward to seeing you where we worship God.
